Evening Courses Description

Pottery for Beginners Evening Course (4 weeks, 7-9pm)

The aim of this course is to introduce the beginner or near beginner to basic theory and practice of working with clay, including several different hand building techniques and throwing on the potters wheel. Over the four week block, students will be able to develop their ideas creatively and end the course with finished ceramic pieces to take home. Cost £115. Price includes tuition, all clay, use of decorating materials such as glazes, oxides, slips etc and 2 kiln firings (1 bisque, 1 gloss).


Pottery Reboot Evening Course (4 weeks, 7-9pm)

This course is for anyone with some experience of clay at any level. eg. did some pottery years ago, or returning to pottery after a break from classes or who is currently potting and would like to join a group to spark off new ideas etc. The aim of the course is to creatively re-visit some of the basic hand building techniques and discover new inspiration and ways of working. There will also be opportunities to use the wheel during the course. Students will end the course with finished ceramic pieces to take home. Cost £115. Price includes tuition, all clay, use of decorating materials such as glazes, oxides, slips etc and 2 kiln firings (1 bisque, 1 gloss).

Drawing and Painting Reboot (4 weeks, 7-9pm)
This course is for anyone at any level of experience wishing to find some new inspiration and either build on practicing existing skills or find new ways of working. Over the four weeks students will have help to develop a series of drawings and painting in response to a variety of interesting and different themes. Cost £80. 

Day Workshops Description

Pottery for Beginners Full Day Workshop (10am - 3pm)

The aim of this course is to introduce the beginner or near beginner to basic theory and practice of working with clay, including 2-3 different hand building techniques and a chance to have a go at throwing on the potters wheel. During the day students will be able to share ideas and create at least one finished piece to be fired. Cost £95 for the full day. Price includes tuition, all clay, use of decorating materials such as glazes, oxides, slips etc, storage and drying of work and 1 kiln firing.

Pottery for Beginners Half Day Workshop (10am - 1pm)

The aim of this course is to introduce the beginner or near beginner to basic theory and practice of working with clay, including learning a basic hand building technique and a chance to have a go at throwing on the potters wheel. During the morning students will be able to share ideas and create at one finished piece to be fired. Cost £75. Price includes tuition, clay, use of decorating materials such as glazes, oxides, slips etc, storage and drying of work and 1 kiln firing.

Pottery Reboot Half Day Workshop (10am - 1pm)


This course is for anyone with some experience of clay at any level. The aim of the course is to creatively re-visit one technique of your choice and discover fresh inspiration and ways of working. Cost £75. Price includes tuition, all clay, use of decorating materials such as glazes, oxides, slips etc storage and drying of work and 1 kiln firing.

Drawing and Painting Full Day Workshop (10am- 3pm)
This course is for anyone at any level of experience wishing to find some new inspiration and either build on practicing existing skills or find new ways of working. During the day students will work on both technique and expression, working from a still life arrangement or from their own pictures/photo references. Cost £60. 

Open Studio

The aim of the Open Studio is to give people access to the workshop and facilities so they can work on their own projects. For example this includes hobbyists, 6th form or college/university students, and people who are considering starting a career or aiming towards starting their own business in ceramics and need somewhere to learn and practice their skills. It also includes small groups who wish to hire the facilities for their own projects. However the Open Studio is not designed to accommodate production potters or people using the facilities for manufacturing or premises from which to run their own business.

Open Studio Access

The workshop is available for bookings according to the timetable, other times may be possible by individual arrangement. A booking system is in place to ensure that the workshop is never over crowded and there is good access for using the wheel.

Open Studio Costs:

Induction Session 

Anyone wishing to use the Open Studio is required to have a 1-1 induction session. This takes place at the start of your first booked hour at no extra cost.

Membership Options:

Pay As You Go, £12 per hour

• Full access to workshop facilities, equipment, tools and reasonable use of decorating materials such as glazes, oxides, slips etc. 

Does not include shelf space for storage of work in progress.

10 hour voucher, £110 paid in advance

• Full access to workshop facilities, equipment, tools and reasonable use of materials such as glazes, oxides, slips etc. 

• The 10 hours can be spread over 2-10 sessions, valid for four weeks from voucher start date.

• Price includes an allocated shelf space for work in progress.

15 hour voucher, £150 paid in advance

• Full access to workshop facilities, equipment, tools and reasonable use of decorating materials such as glazes, oxides, slips etc.

• The 15 hours can be spread over 3 - 15 sessions, valid for four weeks from voucher start date. 

• Price includes an allocated shelf space for work in progress.

The above costs include the services of a technician who will be available if required during the session (however they will not be able to offer teaching) and undertake checking and loading/unloading work from the kiln.

Additional costs

Clay, priced per kilogram. Firing of work by volume, £5 for the first 5 litres, plus 50p per each extra litre.

Concessions 

There is one concessionary place (50% off all costs) per calendar month for the open access studio (but not the taught courses) please enquire if you feel you would like to apply.

1-1 Lessons

Private 1-1 lessons are by arrangement. Cost £35 per hour to include tuition and clay. Semi-private lessons cost £25 per person per hour including clay.
